IMPORTANT Documents

Keep the following original documents in a safe and secure location,document storage and copies in a waterproof, fire resistant container that you can access in an emergency, where electronic copies may not be available.  These documents should help with identifying and finding family members, contacting family/friends, assisting in medical care, and/or assisting with the recovery phase of a major disaster.

The following is a suggested list of important documents:

  • Will/Trust
  • Medical Directive
  • Insurance policies – copy of the cover page with the account number
  • Deeds
  • Contracts
  • Stocks & bonds
  • Passports
  • Immigration and or naturalization documents
  • Social security cards
  • Bank account numbers
  • Credit card numbers
  • Inventory of valuable household goods
  • Important telephone numbers
  • Your family records – birth, marriage, death certificates
  • Your personal records – birth, marriage, divorce, military, etc.
  • Photos of family living in your house
  • Special certifications or licenses – EMT, paramedic, amateur radio, aviation, marine, weapons permits, etc.
  • Password List
